What you’ll learn
Object Relations theory describes how personality develops, beginning with our earliest interactions with Others in our lives. Integrated with the Enneagram, it gives us a matrix for understanding the deepest forces underlying the development of our fundamental ego structures. In this program, we’ll explore this matrix to uncover the core motivation for your type-related behavior and how it drives your sense of purpose in life.
Object Relations theory proposes that our sense of self develops with each interaction with a person, or an Object, from the time we are born. Each interaction is characterized by a core emotional quality. We build a personality layer by layer from each interaction. By adding the Enneagram to this theory, we build a 3X3 matrix from three groups of archetypal Others and three categories of Dominant Affect or emotion. Each Enneagram type then has a characteristic pattern that helps us understand what each type structure is seeking and therefore what drives our individual sense of purpose.
The session includes an experiential exercise and plenty of time for questions and discussion.
