We waited a long time for this...the warmth and leafy greens of summer! And with it, our meditations on meaning and purpose have taken a turn. There’s change in the air as our chapter of the IEA ponders the next chapter.

Starting in 2023, Ben and our board members have explored themes of relationship and purpose through dozens of events to showcase the dynamic range of Enneagram work. We created a website to provide our membership with an archive of online workshops and developed a monthly newsletter to foster access and context to our community. We’ve continually polled the membership and other affiliates for ways to grow and show our commitment to resource-fullness.

The Enneagram Northeast board is in a process of evaluation – what has changed and what would a thriving membership look like? We are not Ennea-types who take this lightly, so we’re suspending operations in a Summer Freeze, until we can communicate our findings, (and also for personal fluctuations in work and residence). We’ll be sending further updates in July and August, and will also pause membership fees and renewals during this time.

Are Weekend Workshops worth the drive? What about online programs - do they go deep enough?

Najiba Akbar, our Boston-based Board member describes her experience studying virtually with Consciousness Academy’s Awaken through Enneagram program, based in Egypt:

My initial Enneagram studies were shaped mostly by U.S.-based perspectives, so it was refreshing to encounter the wisdom of a Muslim enneagram teacher who was teaching in a global context. I found it incredibly exciting to be part of such a diverse learning community from around the world. The curriculum went deeper than most Enneagram programs I have encountered, beginning with an exploration of history, human biology and spirituality before moving through the centers, types, and subtypes in a comprehensive and thoughtful way. For me the greatest gift of the program was not the content but the connections I formed with fellow seekers across the globe - all of us engaged in the shared journey of self-understanding and growth. 

As someone who doesn’t always finish what I start (hello Type 9!) I was surprised to find myself fully committed and ultimately earning a practitioner certification. The Egyptian Enneagram community is a dynamic, vibrant space, and I hope I’ll one day be able to travel there in person. I also hope to continue learning from teachers around the world. One of the gifts of this experience was realizing how much there is to learn when we step outside our usual circles and encounter different perspectives on the Enneagram and on life itself.

While we’re out of the office, we’re still reflecting on (and maybe re-watching) faves from the library. Our president, Ben Campbell says why these two really hold up:

1. PATH OF CONSCIOUS LOVE AND TRANSFORMATION... Jonathan Steele is the real deal when it comes to embodying the lineage of Gurdjieff and Cynthia Bourgeault. This session is a journey through the mysteries and gifts of the heart in relationship with another.

2. CULTIVATING A LIFELONG ENNEAGRAM PRACTICE... Mario Sikora was our first “Speaker Event” at Enneagram Northeast, and we enjoyed his session so much that we brought him back for season 2. Mario has a reputation for “keeping it real” when it comes to using the Enneagram, and this was no exception. You could feel the impact he was having on the audience in real time!

Many of us who are drawn to learning about the Enneagram of Personality are accustomed to asking the question “Who am I?” If the goal of our exploration is to be more mindfully self aware, release ego based fears, and access the wisdom of all nine points, what more tangible outcomes are we anticipating, if any?  This year as we turn our attention to the theme, “Enneagram and Purpose” we are raising the question “Why am I?”
